Here is a wonderful online coloring-in game with a selection of Christmas pictures.

Use your left mouse button to navigate this online activity. You can color in an area by choosing a color from the palette and then clicking in the area on the picture that you’d like to fill. The color you have selected appears in the box above the color palette. Note that you can make any selected color darker or lighter by dragging the black arrow beneath the palette. Besides coloring in, you can also draw freely on the picture. To do this, click on one of the dots (whichever thickness you want your pencil to be) under the text “DRAWING TOOLS”. Choose a color from the palette. Then click and drag to draw or write text on the picture. You can switch back to coloring in by clicking the paint-bucket icon. You can print your picture (the green border will not be printed, only your picture will), undo your last actions, and erase your colors and any drawings/text (i.e., reset the picture).

To color in a picture other than the Christmas tree, which is the default picture, select another picture from the drop-down menu shown under “Color Other Pictures”. As you will see, there is a fairly large selection. Some are easier than others so there is bound to be one that is suitable for your child!

Why not get your child to write a Christmas message or just sign their name in the blank space? Consider printing out mulitple copies to make into Christmas cards to send out to family and friends. Alternatively, a framed print-out would make a lovely gift for proud grandparents or aunties and uncles.

Another idea is to print the plain black and white version of your chosen picture. It can then be colored in and decorated by hand.

This is a fun game that is great for Christmas parties. The game is very simple, but it will no doubt get everyone in a festive mood!

You will need

A group of participants

A hifi or other means to play Christmas music (note: there must be an easy way of starting and stopping the music abruptly)

A selection of Christmas songs, carols, or even instrumental Christmas music

A non-player to be in charge of the music

How to play

The person in charge of the music should play a small snippet (e.g., 4 seconds) of Christmas music.

The players have to guess what it is!

Repeat the above steps for as long as people are interested in playing.

CDs with a selection of Christmas songs and carols by various artists are ideal to use for this game.

The longer the music snippets are, the easier the game is. The game can therefore be played at children’s parties. Do make sure that the Christmas tracks are fairly well known, so that the children have a chance of guessing correctly!

Variation

The game can also be played by having participants each sing a snippet of a Christmas song or carol, instead of using recorded music. Only do it this way if you think that everyone present knows at least a few words of a few carols or songs!

All you need for this simple but fun outdoor game is a snowman, a hat, and at least two players. Make sure that everyone is wrapped up warm before starting!

The aim is to take turns at trying to land a hat on your snowman’s head. When throwing, participants should stand behind a line drawn in the snow. The game can be made harder by increasing the distance between the line and the snowman. The type of hat you use will also affect the difficulty of the game. Softer, lighter hats will be more difficult to aim than more rigid, heavier hats. Throwing is best done frisbee style.

If you like, you can make up rules regarding what constitutes winning. For instance, the winner might be the person who scores the most out of 5 turns.

While this game is normally played at children’s birthday parties, it is also ideal for family Christmas parties. It is a great icebreaker for guests who don’t know each other.

You will need

A group of participants (the larger the group the better)

Portable chairs (you’ll need to start with one for every player, except one)

A hifi or other means to play Christmas music (note: there must be an easy way of stopping the music abruptly)

Christmas music and a non-player to be in charge of it

How to play

Arrange the chairs in a large circle or in a line. If you put the chairs in a circle, have the chairs facing outwards. If you put them in a line, you can have a single line of chairs with them alternately facing opposite directions. Or you could make a double line of chairs, with them arranged back-to-back. Another option would be to have the chairs arranged facing outwards around the dinner table! This is good is you have limited space. Remember that there should be one less chair than there are players.

Have everyone stand around the chairs. If the chairs are in a circle, people should be on the outside of the ring.

The person in charge of music now needs to set the Christmas music going.

While the music is on, everyone playing needs to walk or skip around the ring of chairs.

After several seconds, the person in charge of the music needs to abruptly stop it.

When the music stops, the players need to sit themselves down on the chairs as fast as possible. Some players may have to run quite a way around the circle.

The person left without a chair is out of the game. If two people are perched on one chair, the one who is occupying the most of the seat stays in the game.

Once someone is eliminated, everyone should stand so that a chair can be removed. This keeps the number of chairs one below the number of people playing.

Repeat the cycle of steps 3 to 8 until there is only one person, the winner, left in the game. The person in charge of the music should play the music for random amounts of time each round, so that the players are caught unprepared!

Variations

Instead of using a hifi, the music in the game could be performed live with a musical instrument or by singing. Most people can sing Christmas carols, so the latter option may be easier to arrange. Just print out the lyrics of some popular Christmas carols and your music is sorted!

A non-competitive version of musical chairs involves removing a chair but no player each time the music stops. All players must sit or perch on the remaining chairs without their feet touching the floor. This version will promote teamwork amongst the players. This version sounds quite dangerous to me, as people might fall and hurt themselves. Therefore, you might want to put a soft mat and cushions under and around the chairs.

In this game you are Santa Claus, riding through the sky in your sleigh on Christmas Eve. Your aim is to deliver gifts to children who have been good, and coal to children who have been naughty.

Use your mouse to move around in the sky. Press the “x” key on your keyboard to get ready to throw gifts. Press the “c” key to get ready to throw lumps of coal. Left click your mouse to drop the gifts or coal in the chimneys of the houses. Good children live in the pale-colored houses, and naughty children live in the darker houses. You’ll earn points for every successful delivery. Every time you drop the wrong thing in a chimney, you will lose points.

Avoid the snowballs that are being thrown by the naughty kids below. If you are hit too many times, you will fall from the sky and the game will be over.

While you are playing, the level on the “goodifier” gauge on the left will slowly rise so that it is entirely purple. At this point, you can use your “z” key to shoot a “goodifying” ray towards the children below. If it touches one of them, they will become good and stop throwing snowballs at you! You will also earn points for this.

You can push your “p” key or spacebar at any time during the game. This will pause the game and take you to a screen where you can use the points you have earned throughout the game to do the following: increase your sleigh’s robustness towards snowballs, increase the rate at which your goodifier gauge charges, increase the rate at which you can pick up and drop off presents.

This cute game (provided by Ultimate Arcade™) allows you to create a customized snowman/snowwoman image and then send it to your friend(s) as a Christmas e-card. You can make a traditional-looking snowperson or a wacky looking one! This is a free service that is especially fun for children!

First you choose whether you want a male or female snowperson. You then make the snowman/snowwoman’s face, add arms, and dress him/her up. Note that there are tabs for both “TOPS” and “BOTTOMS” under the “CLOTHES” options, and there are two pages of “HATS”. You can even click the “RANDOM SNOWMAN” button to get a randomly dressed snowperson. You will get either a random selection of snowmen or snowwomen, depending on what you chose in the previous step. You can keep clicking “RANDOM SNOWMAN” until you get a “random” snowperson that you like. For extra, rather odd options, click the bells to the left. Once you are happy with your snowperson, click “NEXT STEP”. You’ll now see a screen with boxes for typing in your email address, the email address(es) of your recipient(s), and a Christmas message. You can preview the e-card before you send it. After you click “SAVE AND SEND”, the e-card will be sent to your friend(s), and you will be sent an e-card notification to your own email address.

PLEASE NOTE: I did not make this game and I therefore do not know if the email addresses you type in are stored anywhere or used in any way.
